The debut of the microprocessor in the early 70's was a hugely world changing era. Computers changed from gigantic machines taking up entire rooms to individual byte-sized units (Pun intended). This change in the computer architecture made home computing possible and unlocked the potential humanity in a large variety of ways. Business, Entertainment, transport/automotive uses, mobile phones and almost every electronic device you buy today is powered by some variation of a microprocessor.
This new era of powering electronic devices with their own dedicated processing chip has empowered society with independence in computing and has taken computer use from exclusive use in the lab to almost every facet of your life.

ReplyDeleteYeah, good post Rob.
ReplyDeleteWe all know about Moore's law, but I was struck the other day when a phone in a catalogue had 3 times as much processing power as the computer I owned in 2003!
