Benz Patent-Motorwagen

Well what we have here is the first petrol engine car developed by a german guy by the name of Karl Benz...which you can all guess the company Mercedes-Benz is named after. This I believe is the best consumer product ever built because without it we would still be driving wooden planks on wheels with massive amounts of steam coming out of them. The engine which had a 954 cc single-cylinder four stroke engine was designed in the year 1886 and it was capable of producing 0.9 hp (0.7 kW) at 400 rpm.
This car was recently shown at the International motor show in Melbourne.

  1. Even though this was obviously an invention that greatly influenced modern society, I'm not exactly sure that it is technically a consumer product, seeing as it wasn't something that could be sold. Regardless, it has most certainly resulted in a 'paradigm shift'.
