The Attic radio

In a time where retro kitsch is becoming mainstream, there are more appliances being designed to conform to this trend. The Attic radio in my opinion is the best example of this union of old and new.

So the specs include a standard AM/FM radio, paired with the ability to plug your music player in and use it as a speaker. It measures 7.5(W) x 5.25(H) x 5.75(D) inches with the single speaker positioned on the top face. The three knobs are used for tuning, volume and power.

The overall design is so pleasing on the eye. It's gently rounded corners styled with vinyl wood and the classic analogue dial, that has been given a chrome finish, are both retro concepts, but somehow they  form an incredibly modern look in this design. This is a major reason for my appreciation of this design as I am a big fan of the old becoming new concept that is increasing in popularity. There is also nothing offencive about the design, in fact I feel it's very calming, ergonomic and easy to interact with. This is due to the knobs which are all simple to reach and operate and in addition this radio has a lack of complex curves also simplifies the design.

This simplicity and seemingly timeless design would be the major considerations if I were looking to purchase a radio and that's why I chose it as one of my favourite designs.
