Subtlety is the key

 

I've decided what best attracts me in design is subtlety. In this radio brief I've chosen to focus on the lighting of more modern internet radio design and incoperate the same message in my final concept. The black glossy finish of this radio designs establishes a highly classy and elegant appearance. But what pushes the Sonoro Eklipse CD Clock radio to the next step has to be the lighting feature. It's bright contrast against the black does remind one of driving late home at night with nothing but the lights in your car and the street lights outside taking you home. But what I love most about how light is utlized in this design is its subtlety; it doesn't take over the radio but supports the simple symmetrical structure. Without it, the radio would be insanely dull. It's visually engaging and in my opinion, brings the design to life.

This video is pretty close to what I want to achieve but probably not as intense. But it's successful in the sense that you can actually see the music. You can see the pulse of each beat in rythym with the chords of the song. This LED light feature really makes it look alive, and I believe if placed correctly, it could really bring out a simple design into an amazing one.
