Joseph Joseph's Shell Digital Scale

The shell digital scale is a product designed by Morph Design for the Joseph Joseph brand of kitchenware.

This digital scale has all the aspects to please the cooking fanatics. Lift off the integrated measuring bowl to reveal a large, easy to read LCD display and simple controls. Rest the upturned bowl on the unit and it's ready to weigh both liquids and dry foods in the following units: g, lb, oz, fl.oz and ml. A convenient "add and weigh" function also allows multiple ingredients to be weighed in the same bowl during recipe preparation and an auto power-off feature maximizes battery life.

Apart from its sophisticated functions, the shell digital scale also has a good modern look. It has a very sleek design with a minimum of details, just enough to please the eye – even the logo is hardly visible compared to other products where it is boldly printed so you cannot miss it. The stainless steel measuring bowl creates an interesting contrast as it reflects the light compared to the white or grey unit which is of a matt finish. The metallic measuring bowl also gives the whole design a futuristic look. The blue screen together with the line beneath it having the contour of the bowl makes the product look sharper. It is also very cleverly designed, with a semi-circular recess on the sides which make it easy for the user to lift the measuring bowl.

I believe that Joseph Joseph has once again found a very good balance between functionality and aesthetics in this shell digital scale as they did with their various other designs.

  1. We've got one of these at home and I agree, aesthetically very pleasing and easy to use. It's actually incredibly light and has rubber grips which I think are important for a kitchen appliance.
