Concussions in contact sports have become an increasingly alarming issue, especially the life long and career ending consequences it can cause. It is also extremely difficult to ascertain whether serious head injuries have occurred, because in less obvious cases players are reluctant to leave the field. while the effects of concussions can vary, it is most severe in repeated exposure to traumatic head impacts, this is when permanent injuries and disabilities can be caused.
That's is why X2IMPACT's smart mouth guard, that can measure the impact of player collisions has the potential to solve the problem. The impact sensing mouth guards can provide coaches with vital information in real time, so players can be protected from further injuries. The mouth guards measure the G-force, and contain acceleration and rotation censors, to help medical staff in determining the severity of collisions.
Whilst still in it's proto-type stage, the X2IMPACT guard is being trialed by the University of Notre Dame's football team. There have also been calls to introduce the technology in AFL games. The same technology is available in headband and helmet form.

Oh man i am a bit of a lover of anything performance enhancing or Armour related when it comes to sport! This is a truly cool invention.
ReplyDeleteThis looks amazing, as someone who has been hit many times on the hockey field this looks like a really beneficial invention. Plus if it were used in professional sport not only would it provide added safety but finally codes could be compared to determine which is the toughest.
