I Need Exactly This Much!

For this weeks neat devices that measure, i found 'The No More No Less Water Tap'.

Designed by Jasper Hou, this cool measuring tap solves two problems, for the user and the environment. For the User there no more time wasted searching around your kitchen for a measuring cup, and no more wasted water for the environment because you forgot to turn off the tap. Hou built the tap with a simple controller that shuts itself down after a specific amount of water passes through it. The most interesting thing i found about this hi-tech tap is that it doesn't actually measure the amount of water that passes through it, instead it actually measures the time in which water passes through it. You simply enter the desired amount of water, and the tap will shut itself down after a certain number of seconds. However their is a flaw in the design of this brilliant water saving tap; there's a built-in auto-shutoff, to turn the tap off after 30 seconds, which would be very in inconvenient when you want to to fill up the sink to soak dishes.

The overall look is also quite appealing, with a simple slick modern contemporary shape. You control how much water you want by twisting a simple knob. An LCD screen displays your setting, along with water temperature and total water outflow. But the coolest thing about this hi-tech tap, which is just awesome in my opinion, there's no electricity or batteries. That's right NO BATTERIES or ELECTRICITY!! The LCD screen is powered by the water flowing through the tap. OMG i love this tap! I'd buy it if i had money, besides lets be honest.... who still does there dishes in the sink, ie. who doesn't have a dishwasher these days?

How you all find it as interesting as i did :)

  1. WOW! this tap is really cool! The fact that it does not require batteries is a really good feature of this design. This solves the problem of tipping small amounts of water out of measuring cups when cooking and such.

    Awesome design!

  2. I love the power generation of this one Matt, great find. However when you say its only flaw is that it automatically shuts off after 30 seconds, do you know how much water one actually needs to fill up the sink? Or not even fill up the sink, but enough to wash the dishes?

The company seems to have made an ethical decision for the consumer - the amount of water necessary to wash the dishes with (which may be the amount needed before washing dishes becomes less efficient than running the dishwasher). If this is the case, I think well done to them.

    Great design.

  3. I really like the way that it simplifies things in the kitchen; like you said 'no more time wasted searching around your kitchen for a measuring cup'. The technology behind it is top notch as well. Visually it's a little awkward for me. Having the digital read-out at the top requiring another bend in the pipe gives the impression that it's been tacked onto the end of an ordinary conventional kitchen tap. Whilst it is easy to read, if the screen was part of the handle of the tap (i.e down low) it would make it look even more appealing.
