Digital Display

I decided to focus on the digital display because it's an important element of a DAB/Internet radio. Most radio's have a back-lit screen that can be quite overpowering, either a bright green or fluorescent blue.

The picture above is of my stereo at home. It's made by Pioneer and it's about 10 years old or so. The thing I like about it most is the LCD screen; the fact that it has a black background and white text makes it easy to read even from a distance and best of all, it doesn't illuminate a dark room when in use or sitting there on standby. The dark background also evokes a sense of quality when compared to some cheaper products on the market, and the text isn't as 'chunky' or as heavy as some other displays.

I'm hoping to use a similar screen on the final design of my radio, so that the physical attributes of the radio are more dominant than the information shown on the screen.

  1. I really like this method of having an LCD screen on a product, it exudes quality.

I was thinking of incorporating a similar feature in my design, as in making my radio out of clear Perspex and having the screen of the same colour behind it, so the screen is almost 'hidden' when it's not on.

    By the way, nice stereo!
