A bit of quality old stuff...

As everyone else seemed to be heading in a more contemporary direction with these little radio analysies, I thought I'd go in a different direction and highlight some quality old equipment.  The image I have attached is a Atwater Kent radio with a horn speaker, and what I enjoy most about this radio and others from this era is the aesthetic, the fact that it looks like a machine, proper dials and gauges, and of course that brilliant horn speaker!  There should be more horn speakers in the world, and there sad lack in modern society is a development to be both mourned and rectified.

The beautiful use of dark woods and an elegant and purposeful design give older radios a class I believe has been largely lost today with the advent of mass production with methods such as injection moulding.  But perhaps I am a little nostalgic.

Anyway, it's a design and era i quite enjoy,

  1. It's really cool and aesthetic. it bring us 60's nostalgia. even though electric speakers replaced horn speakers in contemporary radio market. this horn radio looks better and it makes me want to listen to radio.

  3. I agree with you that there should be more horn speaker in the modern world. Maybe like electric horn speakers? It would be pretty cool to have old looking radio design in a contemporary radio.
