Finding the finish line.

As we already are well aware, radios of the past and present vary quite a bit in their design. With technical specs, user interfaces, form and speaker output/quality all being very important factors in designing a radio for a specific demographic there is a lot to think about in terms of placement of these elements to form a product that is worthy of the market.

One major element I left out of the above list which I think can shape ANY radio design for ANY demographic (give or take) is the exterior FINISH!

The finish of the products out there on the market today are endless. You could walk into a shop and find  a standard or WIFI radio with plastic (Matte/Shiny/Clear), Brushed aluminium, Wood veneer, Solid wood, Steel or any other metals commonly used in consumer products. Not to mention it could be a combination of any of the above a very common example would be wood veneer MDF/Particle board construction with plastic framing the screen and brushed aluminum knobs.

If there is one lesson I have taken from observing the physical design of the wide selection of WI-FI radios we have on offer today is that finish can make a HUGE difference and make or break a good design when it comes to form or function.
