Material Selection

This digital retro radio designed by German manufacturer Grundig has brought in a vintage style with a modern twist.  The user interface is simple and the LCD is not overbearing and flashy, and when not in use can be masked away with the Perspex hatch.

Though all of these are clever design choices the one that delights me the most is the selection of materials. The radio is encased by a wooden shell and contrasts with the cloth that shields front speaker. The transition of the two dominating materials is broken up by an addition of chrome lining which adds elegance to the design.

I believe the choice of wood is a great addition as it gives off that vintage 1950's feel. The wooden shell allows the radio to blend into any environment be it a modern, old home or even outside by the pool. The grain in the wood is adds a certain complexity to the design and really separates itself from the other overly simplistic digital radios on the current market.
