Although these designs are not specifically from a radio they are still great exams of detailing on speakers grills. On a majority of radios the speakers are hidden behind a uniform pattern of holes or a loosely weaved material, however for my design I wanted to explore the idea of creating some interest in this component.
The JBL grill uses identically sized holes, but the varied spacing and solid sections create an interesting moire form. However I personally prefer the Samsung design because of its ability to create depth on a two dimensional plain. This is achieved simply through varying the spacing and hole size, which is an easy modification that can be utilized to create an eye catching element on any radio design.

OMG Thanks James! I am thinking of incorporating a radio grill similar to these designs. I like how the designer as steered away from the boring mesh and cloth coverings and has made the speaker grill interesting, like pieces of artwork. And as you have mentioned I like how depth is created by only varying the distances between holes and not their sizes (similar to what we have been taught on hatching in product drawing).
