Materials
I think materials are a huge part of the appeal and value of a product. The texture, weight and overall feel of a material can make a huge difference to our attraction to a product.
This radio features what looks like a glass face (painted white on the back) with beveled edges giving it a deeper and more solid appearance. The outside casing is a matte black finnish with a sharp machined finnished edge. These elements give a very high quality feel to the design, and the tuned alluminum style knobs also add to this.
The quality of the materials can sometimes take the users attention away from the actual design of the product (if it were a case of poor or simple design) but also, can attract the user/veiwer to a specific feature or element of the design.
