On a larger scale.

Most of us have at least once in our life travelled overseas right? And don't you hate it that there is always a weight limit for your baggages? But what you probably hate more is lugging your bags to the bathroom scale to check how heavy you've packed, only to find that the big fat suitcase is covering the screen or that it doesn't stay balance on the little narrow platform of the scales. Well, luckily Rene Lee has designed the Scale2 that has an expandable base that can accommodate anything from humans to larger dogs to huge suitcases.

Should you be in need of a wider platform the two metal surfaces on each side can simply swing out. It can expand to twice its width. As with all functional design, it must also be aesthetically pleasing. Whether in its expanded form or not, the scale has a very sleek modern overall appearance with its metallic finishes. The scale also boasts many high-tech features. Scale2 can detect different family members by reading their footprint. It can also record your weight and give you an indication of whether you've lost or gained weight the next time you weigh. Weight gain is shown in bold red type and weight loss is shown in green light type. The display will auto-adjust to the orientation of the user. And finally the Scale2 can sync with your phone application where your health can be managed.

For those who are interested, Rene takes us through his step by step design process in designing the scale on his website.
