Rocky Radio

The Rocky Radio was designed by Cheol-Ki Jo. Instead of dials or buttons, this radio uses a scale. By placing stones on either sides of the scale, the user can control the volume and the channels.

I find the concept and the interaction with the user interesting. However, this radio would not be very practical. Can you imagine how much time it would take to stack the stones to get the desired channel at the right volume?

But what I like the most about this design is its simple and natural look. In fact, this design could not be made simpler - a wooden box with two circles printed on its top – and is yet aesthetically pleasing. The speakers being hidden at the bottom, the designer successfully turned this radio into a decorative object. The wooden device with stones stacked on it projects a Zen look which would be appreciated on any desk, shelf, bedside table or other piece of furniture.

  1. verry cool. Looks like alot of fun! Though i do agree that after a while, it would be slow and annoying. Verry clever regardless
