I thought i would look at speakers and speaker grills in detail this week.
you might have noticed that some radios/systems have speakers that are separated from the main body, and others that are built into it.
with the separate speakers we can either see them covered in soft grills or hard grills. The soft grills, can be made from cloth/stiching/fabric; it imposes little resistance to the sound; it absorbs the vibration;its less prone to rattling and proves protection against smaller objects. The Hard grills, are made from metals/wood/plastics; the holes are either drilled or cross hatched; Because of the hard material it cant move freely - and the speaker output level has to be considered; A speaker with more holes allows more sound but can offer less protection.
With the speakers that are built into the radio, we usually see them with Hard grills, which is probably more appropriate, due to some being portable, and being sturdy. Another reason is because shapes and patterns can be placed over the top and provide a certain style or look.
the photos im showing here, represent the hard grill speaker and its various patterns. like i said before, with the hard grills you can basically place any pattern or style that will suit the look of the radio and therefore is quite convenient.
