Opus 9

This weird looking device, believe it or not, is a watch, The Harry Winston Opus 9 designed by Jean-Marc Wiederrecht and Eric Giroud. It may look like more of a thermometer than a watch, but through this interesting and clever design, The Opus 9 tells the time in a very different way.

You may have noticed there are no hands on the clock face. That's because there are none. It is a very minimalist and non-traditional watch design, which brings about much curiosity to the bystander. It is powered by a self-winding automatic movement and driven by diamond. It has a white gold case, with an alligator leather strap. Instead of hands, the user reads the time by looking at the two diamond chains, each one with 33 baguette cut diamonds. It has a linear display of hours and minutes. This may seam strange at first, but I'm sure if you were to purchase this item, you would soon get used to it.

However, it is not for the faint-hearted. The Opus 9 costs a cool $180,000. Only an honest weeks work really. I really do find this design interesting, taking a new spin on time keeping. The lines of the watch are very clean, and the detailing is superb. Although an unorthodox method of reading the time, it also offers hardly any confusion, and the interface is very successful in showing the time.

The watch is truly dazzling containing 66 pieces of baguette diamonds with 2.148 Karats and 6 garnets with 0.222 Karats. Like I said, this watch is definitely not for the faint-hearted, and, one would assume, could only suit the rich and powerful of this world.
