Magno Radio

After searching and learning all about radios and radio design, and interacting with some radios I stumbled across this radio. Designed by Singgih Kartono these retro styled Areaware Magno Wooden MP3 Radios are made from naturally harvested new-growth wood.  This means that for every tree that is used in production a new tree is planted.

My original thoughts about this blog question was I wanted to find a radio I disliked to critique, but this radio design is along the lines of what I think makes for a really good radio. The radio first of all is very functional and practical, due to the control dials being easily accessible, smooth to use and turn. What I really like is that the screen area is not completely digitalized like most radios now, even though we need to design an internet radio with a screen, I like the older original tuning type screen area. With only the important information shown, the tuned station. I really like the smooth featured controls. These are a feature that I want to include in my own designs, because I think that these are the most important elements and should be shown off.

Even though the radio follows the similar shapes of almost every radio on the market, square/rectangular radios with round edges, this design stands out to me with the inclusion of an antenna that matches the theme with the controls, simple sleek smooth circles/spheres. This radio has a great combination of retro and modern styling.
