Lighting..

The one thing that I believe has been well explored and sometimes also achieved in car radios and uhf radios is the detail put into illuminating the unit. Although the overall design of these units are cramped and generally ugly I believe the effect of the lighting often improves the appeal of having these units in your car.

 

Obviously one of the main reasons for illuminating these units is for improved usability when driving at nighttime, but from what I'm aware the lights never turn off. Even in daylight I believe the often brightly coloured backing lights add to the overall aesthetics and have a great effect.

 

You don't see this same usage of lights in household radios due to the fact they're generally used through the daytime, but I think if used carefully and more subtly it would be a great detail to add to most designs.
