Apple Mac Mini Radio Dock

The Apple Mac Mini Radio Dock is a design concept from the designer Sebastien Sauvage. Inspired from the iPod dock, Sebastien Sauvage upgraded it to fit the Mac Mini.
The docking station is designed such that inside the speakers, sound travels a longer distance being bounced against the inside wall, to achieve a deeper and better quality sound.
I believe it is a really good design, sleek, simple and well balanced. The box shape would by itself be boring and dull, but somehow the red neon lights make this radio design look more lively. Like most apple products, it has an aluminium finish that gives a sharp look to the speakers. Also, I find that the glass top makes the radio more interesting as the circuits are visible. And how nice would it be to see the speakers vibrate (probably when playing at high volume) when the radio is on?
I could not find much information about this design as it is just a concept. So from the absence of buttons, I assume it features a touch screen. Therefore provides a different type of interaction from the more conventional analogue tuner. The only flaw I found to this design is that the USB and multi card readers are on the front side.

Otherwise, I believe this Apple Mac Mini Radio Dock design, if ever produced, would make any desk proud.

  1. Cool design, as you said the lights really bring it to life. I like the fact you can rearrange the speakers and unit to fit your own space.

  2. Like with all apple (and apple inspired) products I like the contrast between the matte aluminium surface and the glossy black glass finish. The lights also give it a very futuristic feel, resembling designs in the "Tron" movie. I do hope that they go through with this concept design, cause I'm sure there will be many interested in buying this product if it gets manufactured.
