While doing some research this design immediately got my attention due to its minimalistic yet interesting look. Designed by Anton Webb from "Yanko Design" this radio concentrates on its use specifically in the kitchen area.
The buttons are large and easily accessible and it features a sleek LCD screen that does not dominate the radio like many others on the market, which also lets the manufacturer keep the costs down. Its hidden away speaker and tuning buttons allow the radio to blend into the kitchen environment and also making it more durable against bumps and knocks.
The oversized, sensitive buttons and rotating top (for tuning) allow you to interact with it when your hands might be busy holding utensils or are just oily and wet. Another well thought out feature is the "touch free volume control", where with the swipe of your hand near the LCD can regulate the volume.
I believe this is a very well thought out practical radio that doesn't lack anything from the design perspective. It is designed for a specific environment and hence a specific audience and fulfils the needs and criteria well. The radio is made from durable materials and is accessible no matter what you might be doing in the kitchen. It also doesn't clash with other kitchen appliances on the market today and would be any easy addition to any modern kitchen.

I couldn't help but think of a double A battery when I saw this, haha! I think it's great that it doesn't look like a conventional radio, but I think it would look out of place in some older kitches. I'm with you when you say that it's 'designed for a specific environment and hence a specific audience and fulfils the needs and criteria well'. It's neat design and technological features makes it easy to use when cooking up a storm. Cool radio :P

When looking for a radio to post I was thinking of using this design. I also think it’s a fantastic design and would really like one in my kitchen. This radio’s simplicity paired with its functionality makes it perfect for its chosen market, which obviously makes it a very successful design.
